An update on the Burlington Forward resolution

This update was sent September 1, 2026.

Burlington Forward is still being worked on in committee. The updated draft more clearly recognizes the different barriers people face when using public spaces, the work already underway by City staff and service providers, the role systemic inequities play in Burlington’s challenges, and the need to address safety, housing, treatment, recovery, public health, and accountability together.

Councilors will make additional changes based on committee discussions and public feedback. Once the committee work is complete, an updated resolution will return to the full City Council for debate and a final vote.
